先日、Hailmary Magazineの小野里編集長がふらっと御来店くださいました。
沢山のブランドや人を見続けてきた方だからこそ、
何気ない会話の中にも重みがあります。
正解も不正解もない。
楕円のどこへ転がるか分からないアメリカンフットボールを追いかける様な毎日。
でも、
転がる先が見えないからこそ面白い。
自分を信じて走り、
転がってきたボールをこれからも拾い続けていきたいと思います。
そして小野里さんと並んで写真を撮ると、
私世代はどうしても思い出してしまうのが『浜崎共和国』。
当時かなり読み込んだ一冊で、
久しぶりに本棚から引っ張り出してみると、
Free&Easyのジーンズ特集でもここまで読まないだろうという位ページは反り返っていました。
さすがに引っ付いたページは無かったので一安心です。笑
その『浜崎共和国』の中で、
小野里編集長はこんな事を書かれていました。
「10年後に評価される本にしたい」
それに対して浜崎あゆみさんは、
「F&Eはいくつになっても何年経っても絶対に読み返したくなる。そう言えばああいうことだったのかも知れないと思って見る日がいつかくるという、そういう本なんだろうなってイメージ」
と答えています。
24年経った今でも浜崎共和国を読み返している身としては、
お二人の言葉はどちらも本当になったんだなと思います。
そしてきっとHailmaryもまた、
10年後、20年後に読み返される雑誌になるんだと思う。
その時にTCBも、
その渦の中にいつも居られる様な仕事をしていかなきゃいけないなと思った次第です。
A Happy Day.　
The other day, HailMary Magazine editor-in-chief Onosato-san stopped by the shop.
When someone has spent decades observing countless brands and people, even the most casual conversation carries a certain weight.
There are no right answers and no wrong answers.
Every day feels a bit like chasing an American football — you never know which way the ball will bounce.
But that’s exactly what makes it interesting.
Trusting myself, running forward, and picking up whatever opportunities roll my way.
That’s how I’d like to keep moving forward.
Whenever I sit next to Onosato-san, though, I’m reminded of something from my generation: Hamasaki Republic.
It was a book I read over and over again back then.
Recently, I pulled my copy from the bookshelf and found the pages curling from being read so many times.
Honestly, I’ve probably never read a denim feature in Free & Easy that many times.
Thankfully, none of the pages were stuck together. That was a relief. 😆
In Hamasaki Republic, Onosato-san wrote:
“I want this to be a book that will be appreciated ten years from now.”
To which Ayumi Hamasaki replied:
“Free & Easy is the kind of magazine you’ll want to revisit no matter how many years pass. One day you’ll read it again and realize, ‘So that’s what it meant.’ That’s the kind of publication I imagine it to be.”
As someone who is still rereading Hamasaki Republic 24 years later, I can honestly say that both of them were right.
And I think HailMary will become that kind of magazine as well — something people will pick up again ten or twenty years from now.
When that day comes, I hope TCB will still be somewhere in that story.
