MOTOのイベントの際、秀夫さんが100年前のVintageを穿きながら、 こんな事を教えてくれました。
「パンツ本来のシルエットは、サスペンダーで吊ってからこそ」 その一言が、妙に腑に落ちて。
ジーンズも1922年にベルトループが付くまでは、基本的には吊るしか無かった訳で。
そう考えると、吊るという行為こそがオリジン。
以前もMOTOさんは、 赤タブも隠しリベットも付いているのに、サスペンダーボタンが付いたVintageを見せながら、
「これは通称36かな？」
なんて言っていたのを思い出します。
イベントが終わっても、その余韻が残ったまま。
「久しぶりにサスペンダー仕様の30’s Jeansを穿いてやろう」
そう思っていたタイミングで、 ちょうど本日、久しぶりに30’s Jeansが補充されました。
そして実際に吊ってみると—— やっぱり違う。 腰で止めるベルトとは違って、 上から吊る事で、重力のかかり方が変わる。
ヒップの落ち方、腿の出方、 そして全体の“線”。
同じパンツなのに、まるで別物です。 ※通常の30’s Jeansにはサスペンダーボタンは付きません。

30’sシリーズは、年代別の中でも ・一番太く ・一番濃く ・一番ゴワついた生地 ある意味、一番“原始的”なジーンズ。
さらにこの生地は平耳の為、生産タイミングも限られます。

At the MOTO event, Hideo-san was wearing a 100-year-old vintage pair, and he told me something that really stuck with me:
“The true silhouette of trousers only comes to life when they’re suspended with suspenders.”
For some reason, that just made perfect sense.
Until belt loops were introduced in 1922, jeans were essentially meant to be worn with suspenders.
When you think about it that way, hanging them is the original way.
I was also reminded of another time at MOTO, when he showed me a vintage pair—
with a red tab and hidden rivets—yet still equipped with suspender buttons,
saying, “This is what people call a ‘36,’ I think.”
Even after the event ended, that feeling stayed with me.
“I want to wear the 30’s Jeans with suspenders again.”
Right as I was thinking that,
we just happened to complete a long-awaited restock of the 30’s Jeans today.
And when I actually wore them with suspenders—
It’s different.
Unlike holding them up at the waist with a belt,
suspending them from the shoulders changes how gravity works on the garment.
The way the hips fall,
the shape of the thighs,
and the overall “line.”
It’s the same pair of jeans,
but it feels like something completely different.

In a way, it’s the most “primitive” form of jeans.
On top of that, the fabric uses a plain selvedge construction,
which makes production timing quite limited.
