20’s JK

“What an incredible vintage jacket!”

That was my first thought when he walked into our store.
Then I took a closer look and realised it was our TCB 20’s Jacket.

Its owner is a refrigeration technician who travels all over Japan in a Mercedes van that looks almost like a camper.
He told us that his 20’s Jacket has become his trusted companion on the road between jobs.

A van full of tools, and a jacket full of wear.
Seeing someone wear our clothes as part of their working life makes me happy—and a little envious, too.

Plenty of wear, and probably a wash whenever it needs one.
I didn’t ask how often he washes it, but that’s the kind of life its fading made me imagine.

One of the most eye-catching features of the 20’s Jacket is its collar, with points that spread straight out to the sides.
We actually use the selvedge—the finished edge of the fabric—in this collar.
If you get a chance to hold one, take a closer look.

Another detail I’d love you to notice is the stitching on the left chest pocket.

Twin-needle sewing machines were already in use in this era, but what’s interesting here is the rounded path of the stitching.
Rather than making sharp turns at the corners, the stitching on the flap follows a curve.

To exaggerate a little, it’s about as rounded as a Wrangler 111MJ. Haha.

And those curves aren’t limited to the flap.
The pocket itself is shaped like home plate on a baseball field, yet the stitching rounds the corners rather than tracing each angle precisely.

On this particular jacket, the fading along the seams makes those curves especially clear.

Stitching we studied when making the jacket now gives us something to rediscover, through a jacket someone has made their own.

At first, it caught my eye because I thought it was vintage.
Finding out it was TCB made me even happier.
