Cat Workers Pants
先週末から予約を開始した Cat Workers Pants。
初動も大好評で、まずは一安心しています。
現在すでに工場では生産が始まっています。

TCBの工場では、チームで同じ完成形を目指すために、仕様書だけではなく、工場長が実物のディテールサンプルを作って共有してくれます。
今回の Cat Workers Pants で特に面白いのが、玉縁ポケットです。
テーラーメイドの世界では、口が綺麗に閉じている玉縁ポケットが美しいとされます。
でも今回私たちが再現したかったのは、その真逆。
穿き込むことで少しずつ口が開いていくような、ヴィンテージに見られるラフで不完全な表情です。
完成時のサンプルだけでなく、途中工程のサンプルも作ることで、完成後には見えなくなる部分まで工場内で共有しています。
前立ての身返しのロックは、あえて糸調子を整えすぎず、ヴィンテージらしい表情に。
前立てのダブルステッチも、内側が少し膨らむ独特な運針を再現しています。
そのステッチを再現するために、ヴィンテージからトレースしたステッチワークを紙ヤスリで型に起こし、その線に沿って縫う。
効率だけを考えると遠回りですが、こういう遠回りにこそTCBらしさがあると思っています。
小股の縫い方も独特です。
Levi’sを再現する時のような明確なルールというより、元になった個体の偶然から生まれた縫い方かもしれません。
でも、その偶然も含めて再現しています。
前ポケットの向こう布には、一針落ちている箇所がありました。
そこもそのまま採用。
さらに面白かったのは、コインポケットを縫うステッチと、向こう布のステッチが一筆書きのように繋がっているところです。
そして今回、個人的に一番マニアックだと思っているのが、後ろのバックヨークの巻き縫いです。
玉縁ポケットの口が少し開くように設定しているのは先ほど書いた通りですが、実はその開き方にも理由があります。
バックヨークを巻き縫いする際に、ほんの少しだけ口布を巻き込む。
そうすることで、綺麗すぎない、少し歪な口になります。
本来ならイレギュラーとされるような部分。
でも今回は、そのイレギュラーまで再現しています。
まだまだ書き切れない部分もありますが、現在工場ではこうした細かなディテールを共有しながら、生産が進んでいます。

At TCB, since our products are sewn by a team, we don’t rely only on specification sheets.
To make sure everyone is aiming for the same finished image, our factory manager creates actual detail samples and shares them with the team.
One of the most interesting details on this Cat Workers Pants is the welt pocket.
In the world of tailored clothing, a welt pocket with a neatly closed opening is often considered beautiful.
But what we wanted to reproduce this time was the complete opposite.
We wanted to capture the rough, imperfect look of a vintage garment, where the pocket opening gradually starts to open up as the pants are worn over time.
We make not only finished samples, but also samples of the construction process, so that even the parts you can no longer see once the garment is completed are fully shared within the factory.
For the overlock stitching on the fly facing, we intentionally avoided making the thread tension too perfect, giving it a more vintage-like expression.
The double stitching on the fly is also unusual, with the inner side slightly swelling out.
To reproduce that irregular stitch work, we traced the stitching from the vintage piece, made a guide out of sandpaper, and then sewed along that line to recreate the same stitch movement.
If we only thought about efficiency, this would be a long way around.
But I think that taking this long way around is exactly what makes TCB what it is.
The crotch construction is also quite unique.
Unlike reproducing Levi’s, where there are clearer rules to follow, this detail may have come more from the accidental nature of the individual vintage piece itself.
But we decided to reproduce that accident as well.
On the front pocket bag, there was even one stitch that had missed its mark.
We kept that detail as it was.
Another interesting point is that the stitching for the coin pocket and the stitching for the pocket bag are connected almost like one continuous line.
And the detail I personally find the most obsessive this time is the flat-felled seam on the back yoke.
As I mentioned earlier, the welt pocket is designed so that the opening does not stay perfectly closed, but opens slightly over time.
There is actually a reason behind that shape.
When sewing the back yoke with a flat-felled seam, a small part of the welt fabric is intentionally caught into the seam.
By doing this, the pocket opening becomes slightly distorted rather than perfectly clean.
It is the kind of detail that would normally be considered irregular.
But this time, we reproduced even that irregularity.
There are still many details I haven’t been able to write about here, but this is how production is now moving forward in our factory, with these small details being shared among the team.
