Ryo君の今日のスタイル。
本来ならアメリカのスーパーなんかに普通に売っていそうなパンツを、
ポケTにタックインして穿く。
何なら職場で支給されたCAPをそのまま被って、
仕事帰りにダイナーにいるおじさんみたいな雰囲気。
でも、こういう感じが妙に良い。
日本で解釈されたアメカジは、
逆説的に考えると、
海外の人が想像する“侍の格好”が街を歩いているようなものなのかもしれません。
もちろん私は、そのJAPANフィルターを通したアメカジが大好きです笑
ただ、リアルなアメリカっぽさって、
もしかするとこういう力の抜けたスタイルなのかもしれないなと思いました。
以前、マカロニウエスタンの映画を観た時にも、
同じようなことを感じたのを思い出します。
外から見たアメリカへの解釈。
そういえば昔、日本にアメリカの高級サーフSHOPが上陸した時、
アメリカのサーファーに、
「行くの？」
と聞いたことがあります。
すると彼は、
「本気のサーファーが行く訳ないじゃん」
と笑っていました。
その話を、Ryo君の今日のスタイルを見ていて思い出しました。
リアルと憧れ。
本場と解釈。
生活着とファッション。
その間にあるズレみたいなものが、
私はけっこう好きです。

A pair of pants that, originally, might have been sold casually at a supermarket somewhere in America.
Tucked in with a pocket T-shirt.
And on top of that, wearing what looks like a cap handed out at work,
giving off the feeling of an old guy stopping by a diner after his shift.
But somehow, this kind of look feels really good.
When you think about it in reverse,
Japanese interpretations of American casual style might be something like
people walking around in the kind of “samurai outfit” that foreigners imagine Japan to be.
Of course, I personally love American casual style seen through the JAPAN filter. haha
But at the same time,
maybe this kind of relaxed, unforced style is actually closer to real American casual.
I remember feeling something similar when I once watched a Spaghetti Western movie.
An interpretation of America seen from the outside.
That also reminded me of something from years ago.
When a high-end American surf shop opened in Japan,
I once asked an American surfer,
“Are you going?”
He laughed and said,
“No serious surfer would go there.”
Seeing Ryo’s style today made me remember that conversation.
Reality and admiration.
The original and the interpretation.
Workwear and fashion.
I think I really like that slight gap in between.
