ミリタリーに精通している訳ではない私にとって、
空軍の飛行服と言われると、なんとなくイメージは湧きます。
でも、海軍の飛行士が着る G-1 と言われると、
「海軍なのに、なぜ飛行機？」となってしまうレベルです。
トップガンを観ろ、という意見はさておき……笑
なんなら US ARMY、つまり陸軍となると、
タンカース以外はなかなか具体的なシーンが浮かびません。
そんな時、Vintage の US ARMY M-35 DENIM Trouser について調べていると、
軍のメカニックが工具を持って、飛行機なのか、戦車なのか、
何かを整備している写真が出てきました。
デニムを採用している時点で、やっぱりそういう服だったんだよな。
そう思っていた矢先。
メカニックといえば、の桐山さんが、
Dog Face のために作られた服を元ネタにした Cat Face セットを購入しに来てくれました。
しかも、Dog Tag を付けた3頭の相棒と一緒に。
これからいつものように、オイルに塗れながら、
桐山さんらしい色落ちが完成していくのを楽しみにしています。
I wouldn’t say I’m especially knowledgeable about military clothing.
When someone says “flight jacket for the Air Force,” I can somehow picture it.
But when it comes to the G-1, worn by Navy pilots, I’m still at the level of thinking, “Wait, the Navy… but airplanes?”
Let’s put aside the obvious comment that I should just watch Top Gun… haha.
And when it comes to the US ARMY, aside from tanker jackets, it’s honestly hard for me to picture the actual scene.
Then, while I was researching vintage US ARMY M-35 Denim Trousers, I came across old photos of military mechanics holding tools, working on what looked like airplanes, or maybe tanks.
The moment I saw those photos, it made sense to me.
Of course denim would have been used for that kind of workwear.
And right around that time, Mr. Kiriyama — a mechanic through and through — came by to pick up the Cat Face set, which was based on clothing originally made for Dog Face soldiers.
Together with his three partners, all wearing their own Dog Tags, I’m looking forward to seeing this set develop into his usual oil-stained, beautifully worn-in denim.
