昨日はS40’sとLate S40’sの生地の違いをお話しさせて頂きました。
本日は、S40’s JKとLate S40’s JKの違いについて。
こちらも大前提は同じで、
「大戦モデルって10本あれば10通りの表情があるのが面白い」
というところからスタートしています。
5年前、最初に大戦モデルを作ろうとした時に思ったのは、
どうせ作るなら“少しラフな縫製の個体”が良いな、ということでした。
色々な個体を見ていく中で出会ったのが、
プリーツを留めるボックスステッチが左右で一段ずつズレている一着。
これは正直、“エラー品”だと思います。
でも、だからこそ面白い。
TCBは自社工場を持っているので、
エラーが生まれる現場のリアルも分かっています。
それでも、その個体が市場に出て、
誰かに着込まれ、今こうして手元にある。
「ここに来るまで、何人の手を渡ってきたんだろう？」
そんなことを想像すると、
不思議と愛おしく感じてしまって。
その個体をベースに選びました。
当時の空気感としては、
Vintageより少し着丈を長くして、
全体的にスッキリ見せるバランスで設計していました。
ただ現在は、
“Vintageそのままのバランスの良さ”を改めて見直し、
New S40’s JKとしてシルエットをアップデートしています。
以前のS40’s JKは着丈が長く、ややシャープな印象。
現行のNew S40’s JKは着丈を短くし、
身幅やアームホールもVintage同様のゆとりに変更しています。
なお、生地や副資材の変更はありませんので、
これまで通りS40’s Jeansとのセットアップも可能です。
一方のLate S40’s JK。
古着業界で“ダウンパッチ”と呼ばれる、
襟下のラベルが下に付く個体をベースにしています。
こちらもパンツのネルポケットのセットアップに相応しい相棒としてはインパクトのある個体を探そうと思ってた矢先に出会ったのがSwedenの友人Viktorのコレクションでした。
太めのボックスステッチ、
帯下の黒糸によるタイガーチェーンステッチ、
そしてピカピカの百合バックル。
どこか無骨で、少し“やり過ぎ”なくらいのディテールが
Late S40’sらしいキャラクターだと思っています。
シルエットはNew S40’s JK同様、
Vintageに近いバランスで仕上げていますので、
サイズは基本的に同じ感覚で選んで頂けます。
結果として、
New S40’s JKとLate S40’s JKはシルエットはかなり近い存在になりました。
でも、
“どのヴィンテージをベースにしたか”という違いが、
着込んだ時に、それぞれ違う表情を見せてくれると思います。

Yesterday, I talked about the differences in fabric between the S40’s and Late S40’s.
Today, I’d like to focus on the differences between the S40’s Jacket and the Late S40’s Jacket.
The starting point remains the same:
“What makes WWII models interesting is that if you gather ten pieces, you’ll find ten different expressions.”
About five years ago, when we first set out to create a WWII model,
one thought stayed with me—
if we’re going to make one, I’d rather it be based on a piece with slightly rough sewing.
As I searched through various vintage pieces,
I came across one where the box stitches holding the pleats were offset by one row on each side.
To be honest, it was probably an “error piece.”
But that’s exactly what made it interesting.
At TCB, we operate our own sewing factory,
so we understand how these kinds of imperfections can happen.
And yet, that very piece made its way into the world,
was worn and lived in by someone,
and somehow ended up here in my hands today.
“How many hands has this jacket passed through to get here?”
When you start imagining that,
it becomes strangely endearing.
That piece became the base of our design.
At the time, the overall mood leaned toward
slightly longer lengths than vintage,
with a cleaner, more streamlined silhouette.
However, today we’ve revisited
the inherent balance found in vintage pieces,
and updated the silhouette as the New S40’s Jacket.
The previous S40’s Jacket had a longer body and a sharper look.
The current New S40’s Jacket features a shorter length,
with more room in the body and armholes—closer to vintage proportions.
There have been no changes to the fabric or materials,
so it can still be worn as a set-up with the S40’s Jeans, just as before.
Now, for the Late S40’s Jacket.
This model is based on what’s often referred to in the vintage world as a “down patch,”
where the label under the collar is positioned unusually low.
Around the time I was looking for a piece with enough presence
to match the flannel pocket details of the pants as a proper set-up,
I came across one from the collection of my friend Viktor in Sweden.
Key features include
a thicker box stitch,
a black-thread tiger chain stitch along the waistband,
and a shiny lily-style buckle.
There’s something rugged about it—
almost slightly “overdone”—
and that’s exactly what gives the Late S40’s its unique character.
The silhouette, like the New S40’s Jacket,
is designed to closely match vintage proportions,
so sizing can generally be chosen the same way.
As a result,
the New S40’s Jacket and the Late S40’s Jacket now share a very similar silhouette.
However,
the difference in which vintage piece each was based on
will reveal itself over time—
as each jacket develops its own unique expression through wear.
