今年も、
夏を前に一度だけ、
ペインターショーツを作る季節がやってきました。

ベースにしたのは、
1940〜50年代頃、
ロガー達に愛されていたであろう
ダブルニータイプのペインターパンツ。

それを、
TCBなりにショーツへモディファイしています。

「暑いのにダブルニー？」

そう思う方もいるかもしれません。

もちろん最初のキッカケは、
あのダブルニー特有のステッチワークが、
単純に格好良かったから。笑

でも実際に穿くと、
意外と気にならない。

今回使用した生地は、
経糸にインディゴロープ染色の10番糸。
そして、
肌に触れる緯糸には、
ヨーロッパ原産のリネン糸を使用してる10ozの生地になります。

だから見た目はしっかりデニムなのに、
穿くと風が抜ける。

リネン特有の速乾性もあり、
真夏でも比較的快適です。

インディゴの濃淡に、
リネン特有の少し茶味がかった色合い。
そして、
うっすらと現れるネップ感。

しっかり穿き込んで、
色落ちまで育てて欲しいショーツです。

ちなみに、
織屋さん曰く、
リネンは本当に気難しい素材らしく、
乾燥すると糸が切れやすい。

だから乾燥する時期は、
工場内をかなり加湿しながら
織り上げているとの事でした。

正直、
365日ほぼ同じ格好をしてる私井上でも、
夏のフルレングスは流石に暑い。笑

でも、
暑くてもデニムを穿いていたい。

そんな人に向けて、
毎年夏の風物詩みたいに、
一回だけ作っています。

昔ながらの二本爪タイプを採用。
It’s about time to make painter shorts, just once every year before summer.
The base design is a double-knee type painter pants, beloved by loggers in the 1940s and 50s.
We’ve modified it into shorts in our own TCB style.
“Double knees in the summer?”Some of you might be thinking that.
Of course, the initial reason was simply that the distinctive stitching of the double knees looked cool.
But when you actually wear them, you don’t really notice it’s a detail from the double knee.

The fabric used this time is a 10oz fabric with indigo rope-dyed 10-count yarn for the warp.
And for the weft, which touches the skin, we use European-sourced linen yarn. Therefore, it looks like solid denim, but when you wear it, the wind passes through.
It also has the quick-drying characteristic of linen, making it relatively comfortable even in the middle of summer.
The indigo shades, the slightly brownish linen hue, and the subtle slub texture. These are shorts you’ll want to wear often and develop a beautiful fade over time.
Incidentally, according to the weaver, linen is a very finicky material; the threads break easily when it’s too dry.
Therefore, during the dry season, they weave the fabric while keeping the factory highly humid.

Honestly, even I, Inoue, who wears almost the same denim tux 365 days a year, find wearing top-to-toe denim in the summer undeniably hot. (laughs)
But even in the heat, I still want to wear denim. For those people, we make these only once a year, like a summer tradition.
