TCBのラインナップに、ワークシャツが一つも無いのは少し寂しいかもしれない。
そう思って企画を始めたのが、この UNCLE CAT です。
でも、よくあるシャンブレー生地に、よくあるポケットを付けるだけなら、今さらTCBが作る意味はない。
「ベタな物は要らない。」
そう思って作ったのが、紛らわしい名前ですが ベタシャン でした。
前合わせも、あえてボタンではなくハーフジップ。
これを、
「ワードローブに追加しやすい。」
と思っていただけたのか、
「追加しにくい。」
と思われたのかは分かりません。
でも個人的には、最近一番気に入っているシャツです。
売れるかどうかより、まず自分が着たいと思えた。 そういうシャツになりました。
Having no work shirts in the TCB lineup somehow felt incomplete.
That thought was what started the UNCLE CAT project.
But if we were only going to make another ordinary chambray shirt with ordinary pockets, there would be no reason for TCB to make it.
“I didn’t want to make anything ordinary.”
That mindset led us to create this fabric—confusingly enough, it’s called Beta Chambray (Betashan).
We also chose a half-zip front instead of the usual button-front construction.
Whether you see it as an easy addition to your wardrobe or something a little harder to fit into your rotation, I honestly don’t know.
What I do know is that it has become my favorite shirt in the lineup.
More than wondering whether it would sell well, I wanted to create a shirt that I genuinely wanted to wear myself.
That’s exactly what this shirt became.
