一般的には、ボックス型が主流のファスナーの下止め。
でも今回参考にした Vintage のファスナーは、その下止めがパンツ型になっていました。
実際に調べてみると、当時のファスナーカタログにも、しっかり「パンツ」と記載されています。
ファスナーを下げるとパンツが見える、という暗示なのか。
それとも、ファスナーを下げる前と上げる時で、少し別人格になってしまう人に向けたメッセージなのか。
真相は分かりませんが、今回はそのパンツ型の下止めを採用しました。
ただ、Vintage に入っていた「5番」という数字までは再現できませんでした。
名前は UNCLE。
おじさんという名前なのに、下止めはパンツ型です。
そしてもう一つ面白いのが、バータック。
通常、ワークウェアに打たれるバータックは、粗めで大きめ。
そこに無骨さや道具感があって、私たちも好きな部分です。
でも今回参考にした Vintage には、いわゆる「豆カン」と呼ばれる、スラックスなどに使われるような小さな運針のバータックが入っていました。
ワークウェアらしい顔をしていながら、細かい部分に少し上品な仕様が混ざっている。
こういう小さな違和感に、当時の服の面白さを感じます。
In general, the bottom stop of a zipper is usually box-shaped.
But on the vintage piece we used as reference this time, the bottom stop was shaped like a pair of pants.
When we looked into it, we found that the old zipper catalog actually described it clearly as “pants.”
Maybe it was a hint that when you pull the zipper down, your pants will be revealed.
Or maybe it was a message for those who become a slightly different person before pulling the zipper down and after pulling it back up.
We may never know the truth, but for this piece, we decided to use that pants-shaped bottom stop.
However, we were not able to reproduce the number “5” that was stamped on the original vintage zipper.
The name is UNCLE.
An old man by name, but with pants at the bottom.
Another interesting detail is the bar tack.
Usually, the bar tacks used on workwear are rough, large, and bold.
That rugged, tool-like feeling is something we really love.
But on the vintage piece we used as reference, the bar tacks were the small type commonly known as “Mame-kan,” with fine stitching often seen on trousers.
It has the face of workwear, but with a slightly refined detail hidden in the small parts.
It is exactly these little contradictions that make old clothes so interesting.
