These Late S40’s belong to our executive director, who also runs the factory. He’s been wearing them day in, day out at work.
To be honest, these days I rarely wear my jeans to the point where the whiskers rub through. He, on the other hand, still spends his days at a sewing machine and does the heavy lifting, carrying rolls of fabric.
After moving a heavy roll, he’ll often say to me,
“My back hurts…”
“Please, let the younger guys carry the fabric!”
I keep telling him. But he still joins everyone in carrying the freshly woven fabric to the cutting room.
I think, for him, that’s TCB’s version of the Japanese expression “eating from the same pot.”
When I travel overseas for work, we sometimes share food from large platters. Gathering around the same dishes and raising a glass together always makes me feel a little closer to the people at the table.
At TB, we sew together and carry fabric together.
His jeans bear the marks of those everyday moments.
He says he’s going to keep wearing these Late S40’s a little longer.
I want him to take care of his back, but I’m looking forward to seeing how our factory manager’s jeans continue to fade.
