サンフランシスコから来たお客様を車に乗せて、児島の海岸線を走っていた時のこと。
窓の向こうに瀬戸大橋が見えた瞬間、その人がこう言いました。
「ジーンズが生まれる場所には、象徴的な橋があるんだね」
私は思わず、
「確かに。Levi’sもサンフランシスコだもんね」
と答えました。
後で調べてみると、ゴールデンゲートブリッジと瀬戸大橋は、正式にシスターブリッジとして提携しているそうです。
サンフランシスコと児島。
ジーンズと橋。
偶然のようで、少し出来すぎた話です。
そういえば、橋をもっと象徴的に使ったパンツがありました。
ルーツを辿れば、Can’t Bust’emを作った会社もサンフランシスコ。
その後、カンザスの会社へ吸収された後のタグにも、橋の絵は残されていました。
しかも、そのパンツの名前は Frisco。
この名前が、どうにも良い。
日本で言えば、
“Naniwa Style” みたいなものなのかもしれません。
そんなパンツを、TCBでも準備中です。
今回の拘りは、児島から見た橋の景色。
ゴールデンゲートブリッジとは、向きが逆になるのが特徴です笑
When I was driving along the Kojima coastline with a customer visiting from San Francisco, the Seto Ohashi Bridge appeared outside the window.
He looked at it and said,
“Places where jeans are born seem to have iconic bridges.”
Without thinking, I replied,
“That’s true. Levi’s is from San Francisco too.”
Later, I looked it up and found out that the Golden Gate Bridge and the Seto Ohashi Bridge are officially recognized as sister bridges.
San Francisco and Kojima.
Jeans and bridges.
It feels like a coincidence, but maybe it is a little too perfect to be just that.
Come to think of it, there was another pair of pants that used a bridge in an even more symbolic way.
If you trace its roots, the company that made Can’t Bust’em was also from San Francisco.
Even after it was absorbed by a company in Kansas, the bridge remained on the tag.
And the name of those pants was Frisco.
There is something really good about that name.
Maybe in Japan, it would be something like “Naniwa Style.”
We are currently preparing a pair of pants inspired by that story.
This time, the detail we cared about is the view of the bridge as seen from Kojima.
The direction is the opposite of the Golden Gate Bridge. haha
