現在、ヴィンテージカバーオールの最高峰と言ってもいいのが、Leeのチンストラップ付き、通称「リーチン」。
調べてみると、今や1000万円を超える価格で取引されることもあるほどです。
さすがに、この代物を手に入れるのは……と思っていました。
ところが私は、リーチンと同じ年代のものと思われるLeeの「UNION-ALLS」、つまりオールインワンを所有しています。
写真で見比べてみると、上半身のディテールはほぼ同じ。
ここから、私の悪巧みが始まります。
魅力的なカバーオールの呼び名には、
「リーチン」
「チンチェン」
と、なぜか“チ”が入っている。
どうやら、“チ”が大事らしい。
ならば、オールインワンを“チョップド”してみよう。
オールインワンといえば、小学生の頃に薬師丸ひろ子から教わった「チャン・リン・シャン」。
シャンプーをするだけで、ちゃんとリンスまでしてくれる。
あれ以来の衝撃です。
新作のカバーオールは、リーチンとほぼ同じディテールを持つUNION-ALLSを、腰からぶった切るという発想から始まりました。
文字どおりオールインワンを上半身だけにした構造なので、フロントにはスレキ付きのスラッシュポケットが残り、後ろには、カバーオールなのにパッチポケットが付いています。
普通のカバーオールには必要のないディテール。
でも、それこそが「元はオールインワンだった」という痕跡です。
これまでのTCBでは、あまりしなかった角度からのアレンジ。
ただ、元ネタの上半身が“カバーオールの王者”とほぼ同じディテールを持っていたからこそ、成立した企画だと思っています。
こちらの新作カバーオールは、明日8月28日（金）からReebok渋谷店2Fで始まるPOP UPでも販売します。
8月30日（日）までの3日間、私とRyoも店頭に立っています。

One of the true pinnacles of vintage coverall jackets is Lee’s chin-strap model, known in Japan as the “Lee Chin.”
Some examples have reportedly changed hands for more than ¥10 million.
I had assumed that owning one was simply out of the question.
However, I do own a pair of Lee “UNION-ALLS”—a one-piece work suit believed to date from roughly the same era.
When you compare the two in photographs, the details on the upper half are almost identical.
This is where my scheming began.
Some of the most desirable vintage coveralls have names such as:
“Lee Chin”
“Chin-Change”
For some reason, the letters “CH” keep appearing.
Apparently, CH matters.
So I thought: why not CHOP the UNION-ALLS?
Our new coverall jacket began with the idea of taking a pair of UNION-ALLS whose upper half shares almost all the same details as the Lee Chin—and chopping them off at the waist.
Because the design literally preserves only the upper half of the one-piece suit, it retains slash pockets with separate pocket bags at the front and, unusually for a coverall jacket, patch pockets at the back.
These are details that an ordinary coverall jacket would never need.
But they are also the traces of its origin as a pair of UNION-ALLS.
It is a kind of reinterpretation that TCB has rarely attempted before.
I believe the concept works because the upper half of the original garment already shares almost all its details with the king of vintage coveralls.
This new coverall jacket will also be available at our POP-UP at Reebok Shibuya, starting tomorrow, Friday, August 28.
